BALD BUTTE LOOKOUT
A stay at the Bald Butte Lookout in Southern Oregon back in August. Built in 1931 the 14'x14' lookout was used as a forest service fire detection site and during World War II to detect balloons carrying firebombs from Japan. It was built from the Aladdin L4 Lookout kit, and the pieces were pre-cut to six feet or less in length so that the entire kit could be packed by horses into this remote site. It was restored in 1993-1994 by volunteers as a Passport in Time project. The lookout is located at 7,539ft atop Bald Butte near Paisley, OR and can be rented through the US Forest Service.
